Tonight, I heard Leonard Cohen sing Tower of Song live...in person...you know, the very first time he's done that in 14 years. This was my Mother's Day gift. There could be no better one. He may be 74 but he's still the man. Doo, dum, dum, dum dee doo dum dumm.

A week ago today while visiting family in Ontario, I had the full-on pleasure of hanging out with my dear, dear Sin. Heck, I even met Sugar Daddy and Swee'Pea. (Yes, I will confess, I also hung out with a few other fabulous bloggers but I am trying not to sound all clique-y and such in this post so I'm only linking to one--at least for now.)
One of the things I've come to love about the blogosphere is how we send each other little gifties here and there: Smarties and Canada shirts to our neighbours down south; hand-me-down toddler clothes when we're trying to swear off consumerism; home-made crafts and sewing because we like each other that much... I just love putting delicate bundles in the mail for other bloggers and I love it even more when a surprise bundle comes my way. Last Sunday, though, I received a gift from a blogger that I didn't ever think possible. I was given my daughter. Behold:

Isn't Sin the best? She is, isn't she? I mean really and truly? If this post is your introduction to Sin, get on over to her blog or her Flickr account to check out her work. Better yet, go to her Imagekind account if you're looking for that perfect gift for yourself or someone special. Before you go, tell her how great she is in the comments...because she really and truly is.
I remember when the two of us found each other back in September of 2006. She hadn't dusted off her camera in years. Blogging about life and photography gave the chutzpah to take it all up again. It's been an amazing couple of years watching her grow as an artist. Thank you, Sin, for loaning me your eye through which to see, what is to me, the most beautiful work of art on the planet.

This morning I awoke at 6:30 to the sound of a megaphone outside my bedroom window bellowing "The Sleepy Town Marathon wishes you all a Happy Mother's Day." Ug. The price I pay for living across from the start/finish line. Every freakin' year, I am shocked out of bed long before my time. For those who may be interested, and because at least one of you was so keen as to check the results online for heaven's sake, MadDad came in second with a personal best time of 2:53:37. He turned 40 last fall and he just keeps getting faster. Me, on the other hand? I am still wrestling with the sick that began plaguing me early last week. I barely made it out of bed all day. I had to drive the 4 blocks to the Cohen concert. How pathetic have I become?

31 hats in the ring:
those are some beautiful photos. i'd expect nothing less of sin.
wow. those pictures are gorgeous (as are the subjects!) What a great Mother's Day Gift
hope you feel better.
That Sin. She gots talent. AND great models, too.
My Mother's Day has mostly consisted of being sick AND dealing with the aftermath of my six year old cutting open a CFL bulb. While turned on. In his bedroom. Just to prove me wrong that "electricity is NOT reaaaaaaally invisible, mum."
Sin is so talented. I've got one of her African prints over my way. But it hardly rivals those pics...
and Tower of Song. I ache in the places where i used to play....xo
Wow. I was prepared for seeing the pictures, but I wasn't prepared for your words. I'm SO glad you like the pictures. And lucky, lucky you for getting to see Leonard!
Gorgeous pictures and a neat post - lots of little snaps of your life. I don't envy you being woken up early on Mother's Day, though. That hardly seems fair.
Those are beautiful - as is your girl, I might add. And is that her Ella?
Me, I'm getting slower by the week over here - I mgiht waddle a mile in that time! Good on Mad dad.
I love seeing your girl through Sin's eyes (lens?).
Love those shots. She has such an eye for her subject...and that second one of the two of you together - I'd love to put that on my wall.
Good on Mad Dad. I don't have the energy these days to to get up in the morning to go to the gym, and he's got a decade on me.
Ya, Sage. That 2nd one of me'n'her is my favourite too.
KP: Yup, that would be her Ella.
Ridiculous isn't it that Sin can make the sublimely stunning even more so.
He ran it in that time? The man is obviously a stallion.
She is very talented, that Sin. I'm glad you had the chance to visit.
Good for your hubby! Mine is turning 40 this summer. He isn't running marathons but he is going to Vegas. It's almost the same thing, right? ;)
Oh. Those are GORGEOUS.
She is very talented, and lucked into excellent subjects.
And you tell me *I* meet a lot of bloggers. Look at you!
Glad it was all good. :)
I got to do the laundry and clean the bedroom and try to teach my husband that yelling doesn't happy children make. Sigh.
Lovely pictures. I need a real camera.
I want to run a marathon before I'm 40.
Those photos bring tears to my eyes. I especially love the second-last one, where she's just facing off with the camera head-on.
hooray for mad dad and sin and leonard cohen and adorable little elephants for adorable little girls, and hooray for YOU, mad. happiest of mother's days.
xo
The pics are just lovely -- I am going to go and look at them again. So are the subjects. Sin is amazing!
Marathon man should be proud -- and how is he today?
Those pictures are GORGEOUS. She was a wonderful eye.
When I blog through Canada, Sin is photographing these little 'Tars. Then I can die a happy woman.
Your girl is gorgeous. And Sin's eye, magnificent.
ack! i was sure the concert was tonight in Sleepytown, not last night!
that Leonard, going to see you for Mother's Day...i may be jealous. ;) i will pump you all weekend for details. and whether he looked, you know, lonely. of course, i will not only be driving to the concert but probably showing up in a wheelchair...i'm hoping he'll perhaps see it as a sign that we're made for each other.
congrats to Mad Dad on the marathon...convenient for him that he can just roll outta bed and into the race, yeh?
and Miss M and Sin? those are beautiful, beautiful photos, Mad.
Not pathetic at all.
The pictures are gorgeous. As is your tribute to a good friend.
Happy Late Mom's Day to You.
Ah yes. My quarterly call to report.
Still the most beautiful child in the blogosphere. It ain't just you.
And, yes those pics will likely grow the club a bit hey? What a prize to be bestowed. Nice Sin. Beautiful.
Such great pictures! Wow.
And Leonard Cohen? Swoon...
She is pretty awesome, huh? Love the photos: love them. That Miss M: a total cutie.
I'm whimpering with envy. I'd've driven across the province in a heartbeat to attend a Sin-Mad tea party!!
Those photos... beyond lovely. What a gift.
First respons, F...t OFF! You saw Leonard Cohen? Man, shit, f..t, man...That is awesome! So are those pictures. I will go and check Sin out right now! (After I grab a hotdog...just the wiener but that just looks so wrong typing that!)
Mother's Day can be a tough one as are so many holidays. Emotion-laden and full of expectations.
I told my grown sons that I don't want anything on Mother's Day, that it is more important to me that we are still speaking to each other and that our relationships are nurtured day after day.
They of course smelled a rat (but I didn't mean it as manipulation!) so their default is a mall gift certificate from the heart. They so understand that it is not a yearly obligation which was more important to me.
Lovely shots Mad, Miss M is changing and it is wonderful to see.
Gorgeous, gorgeous photos! What a fantastic gift.
Hope you're feeling more energetic soon. The kind of sick I hate the most is the kind that just drags on, where I'm not really sick but not healthy either.
Oh wow, those pix are great. Just wonderful.
Da doo dumm dummm da doo dumm dummm. My husband looked over at me during Leonard Cohen's concert and told me afterward that in that moment he realized I would have left him for a 70 year old.
That man is a gift to song. His lyrics are a constant gift to me.
And your mother's day gift: perfection. Especially the unguarded moment of lap and love.
Thanks for sharing loveliness.
