Just take one bite, you'll love it.

I made Miss M a bowl of slow-cooked, large-flaked oatmeal for breakfast yesterday. The raisins were warm and bursting with moisture. I topped her bowl with brown sugar and cream. "Try it," I enthused. "You'll love it!"

She wouldn't even take a bite.

Later, at work, I received an email from Sarah at Slouching Past 40 asking me if I would guest post at her blog. "But I NEVER guest post," was the first thought in my head. Then, with memories of cold oatmeal fresh in my mind, I thought, "why not?" Those of you who know Sarah know that she is pinned to the mat by life these days. In writing a guest post, I wanted to reach out not simply by populating her blog with words but by trying extend a bit of my spirit to her in her time of need. You can read the post here.

When I was little, my sister always put raisins in the oatmeal, too, and I didn't want to eat it either. I liked it plain.

I liked finding you at Slouching Mom's this morning, too.

I love the post you wrote over at Slouchy's.
It's a bit disheartening when you want to share something you love with your child and you just know she'd love it, and then she won't even try. On the other hand my son often changes his mind sometime later. Especially if he sees that I enjoy it so much.

Don't tell my eldest that steel cut oatmeal is healthy. We've convinced him it is "an oatmeal cookie in a bowl." He begs for it as a special reward.

I couldn't get my daughter to eat oatmeal either but she has entered her "daddy is god" phase and since he eats oatmeal - so does she and to her surprise it was great.

Give her time.

Making real, healthy and delicious (!) food is often a waste of time with the Boy. He just won't even try it, and it drives me nuts. Nuts, I tell ya!

Thank you for stepping out of the box. She's worth it that Slouchy, and you are more than worthy to stand in the gap for her.

DeBoy is that way too. He'll object, "But I don't LIKE it," before he even sees it, just to save time. I'll be over to Slouching Mom's in a bit. I've neglected her shamefully since vacation as well. I'm sorry to hear she's been in such trials.
